About Qipaoya

We bonded over our appreciation of qipao – its history, allure, and timeless beauty – and a desire to make the qipao an essential part of our everyday wardrobes. Our team is based in the West Coast of the United States, but our roots cross paths in Hong Kong, China and Taiwan. Qipaoya is a love letter to our shared cultures and experiences, and we hope you'll be part of this story too.

The art of making qipao is – as many traditional craft practices are – one that requires a high level of skill, workmanship, labor, and of course, love.There are a relatively small number of tailors who have experience in the artistry of qipao-making, but we're lucky to work with some of these tailors to bring your custom designs to life. Through the process of designing your own qipao, we are collectively continuing the tradition of this beautiful craft.

In creating the Qipaoya Custom Qipao Experience, our goal was to make the journey of creating a made-to-order qipao fun and easy. We use technology to make the experience accessible and engaging, and allow customers to create truly unique garments: from dress style and fabric to the important details like buttons, trim, and pockets! We also believe that good business is responsible business, and with our made-to-order approach, we don't incur the overhead and waste associated with mass production and needing to carry inventory for hundreds of SKUs. The packaging materials we use are also fully recyclable, and we're always looking for ways to work in a more environmentally friendly way.
