The first step is to make an account and fill out a Design Form so that we can start the custom qipao design process. It takes about 3 months from start to finish, including design, production and shipping. We do three Qipao Drops (production cycles) a year, and each Drop has a limited number of spots. For customers who need their qipao by a specific date, we encourage you to keep an eye on the Drop deadlines to ensure that your qipao can be made in time for your event. We do three Qipao Drops a year, so take a look at our calendar to see which one will work best for you. The design process typically takes 2 weeks. The production process and shipping takes about 10 weeks.What’s needed to confirm a spot in a Qipao Drop?
To snag one of the limited spots in a Drop, all of these steps should be completed by the Drop deadline:- Final qipao design approved
- Fabric selected
- Measurements submitted
- Full balance paid
Once completed, we’ll confirm your spot.What if I miss a Drop deadline or need to expedite an order?
If you miss one Drop deadline, check the timing of the next one to see if that will work for you. If you need to expedite an order, please contact us for more information. Note that there will be an additional shipping cost for expedited orders.How much should I expect to spend?
Prices will depend on the fabric, embroidery, and other embellishments. For example, a custom qipao made with cotton fabric in a simple design will start at $399 (including shipping), whereas one made from brocade silk with complex embroidery can be $1500+. We'll work with you to select a style, fabric, trim, and pankou to fit your budget.How does the fabric selection process work?
We offer a truly customized experience, so will source the best fabric options for each customer based on their design form answers during the design process. We source fabric from all over the world and are not limited by what's 'in-house' so that our customers can get exactly what they're looking for. This curated sourcing approach also avoids the waste that is often generated by carrying inventory in-house. In the spirit of customization, we've even helped our extra-creative customers get their own fabric patterns printed!Where is the qipao made?
We work with an experienced tailor and a specialized pankou workshop in China. We look forward to expanding our network of tailors to more parts of Asia one day!Do you make qipao for men, kids and babies?
Yes to all! We can make Tang jackets for men and women. Kids’ qipao are smaller versions of adult qipao with some extra allowance built in to make them extra roomy and comfy. Our baby qipaos can be made with snaps at the bottom for easy changing. Let us know what you’re looking for and we’ll figure out how to make it happen. What's your return policy?
Since each qipao is custom and made to your measurements, all sales are final. Don’t worry though - before your design goes into production, your stylist will confirm all the details and guide you through the measurement process for a perfect fit.What's your alterations policy?
While we do our best to ensure that your qipao is made to the specified measurements, occasionally alterations may be needed to ensure a perfect fit. You can work with a local tailor of your choice and submit a receipt for reimbursement of up to $65. Please note that we can only reimburse fit-related alterations. We do not reimburse costs associated with modifying the original design of the qipao due to a change of heart.Where do you ship?
We ship to all 50 States, but we can’t ship to P.O. Boxes or U.S. Territories such as the U.S. Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico. Unfortunately, we don't ship to Canada at the moment. We love our Canadian fans and hope to ship there one day. :)Can I cancel my order?
Your deposit will be fully refunded if you cancel your order within 48 hours of paying your deposit. Your final payment amount (total cost minus the deposit) will be refunded if you cancel your order within 48 hours of submitting the final payment. Unfortunately, the final payment is not refundable after the 48 hour mark, as material and production costs will have already been incurred.How do I care for my custom qipao?
- Hand wash your garment with a gentle detergent in cold water. Make sure not to soak the garment in water for too long to ensure that the color doesn't bleed. Dry flat.
- The ironing temperature you should use should be based on the type of fabric your qipao is made from. Silk, polyester and nylon can be ironed inside-out on low heat. Linen can be ironed while damp. Cotton can be ironed at any temperature. You can also use a garment steamer for all fabrics.
- For silk, qipao with embroidery, or qipao with custom flower pankou, we recommend dry cleaning.
